We’re back, Fear Clinic-ers!

Just when you thought it was safe to go back in the theatre…Fear Clinic returns to Dayton! That’s right, your favorite new musical will be featured as part of Encore Theater Company’s Litehouse Reading Series. The big day is Tuesday, January 11th, at 7pm in the Litehouse Loft downtown. This is a fabulous series that provides its writers with amazing feedback, so please please come out if you can!

Though it seems like we’ve been in hiding for awhile, the Fear Clinic team has been hard at work. Composer Alex is getting ready to start work as assistant conductor on The Drowsy Chaperone with the Human Race Theatre Company. Librettist Kelsey is returning from a tour with the Missoula Children’s Theatre and will begin prepping for a production of her play Reception in Kansas City. But we’re both very excited to revisit Fear Clinic…and continue working on some new material as well!

The folks at Encore Theater Company have been very good to us by featuring Fear Clinic‘s opening number, “Who I Am”, as part of their Big Fat Concert Series. Below is a video of their performance (which also features the vocal stylings of our own Alex Horton!). Be sure to check out the rest of the concert, which featured lots of songs from up and coming musical theatre composers.

We have officially cast our first production of Fear Clinic! We start rehearsals TONIGHT and couldn’t be more excited. After almost a year of workshops, Alex and I are looking forward to finally seeing it as a full-fledged show. Don’t get me wrong, we’ll have plenty of writing and rewriting to do until June, but it’s still pretty cool!

We’re pleased to welcome to the creative team director Chris Feil and choreographer Lauren Morgan. We’re handing over the reigns to these fancies for this go-round. Yay team!

rocked it – we were definitely proud of the outcome. The audience provided some great feedback in the talk afterwards. Alex and I feel like we have a pretty good idea of where to go next.

Here’s an update on the latest Fear Clinic happenings -

We’re still having our workshop on Sunday, March 28 at Wright State University. Be sure to RSVP by commenting on the “Second Workshop” post so we can save a seat for you!
We now have dates for our first full production. Mark your calendars for June 7-8!
Auditions for the first full production of Fear Clinic will be Thursday, April 1, from 4:30-6 at Wright State University. Click here for details!

Second Workshop

A friendly reminder to attend the second reading of Fear Clinic on Sunday, March 28th at 7pm. It’ll be a Wright State University in room T151. We’ve got less space than last time, so if you’re planning on attending please RSVP by commenting to this post so we know how many people to expect!

The cast has been working really hard and they sound great! This edition of the show has fun features – specifically, new songs and a second half! (That’s right, you’ve been waiting since November to see how this thing ends, and here’s your chance. Don’t miss it.)

Call for Directors

The creative team of Fear Clinic the Musical is currently seeking a director and music director for our upcoming production in spring 2010. Directing experience is a plus but not essential. After two workshops, this will be our first full production, so we are looking for inventive people who are willing and able to apply their creative vision to a new piece.
